Cockburn residents have had their say helping Perron Group shape plans for the first stage of the redevelopment of the Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre, which is expected to commence this year.

From the type of shops to the range of restaurants the community preferred, just over 5,000 shoppers and local residents shared their views in the Growing with Cockburn questionnaire, which was launched at the end of last year with 98% of respondents in full favour of the plans.

Andrew Byars, General Manager Property Investment at Perron Group, said the team was overwhelmed with the response and excited to be helping the community to evolve Cockburn to be a place where they can live, shop and play.

Outdoor dining, cinemas and community space were most highly rated, with the community in unanimous support of new restaurants and entertainment offers. Community response regarding the addition of cinemas was strong, supporting the plans to add a cinema complex in the second stage of works.

“We are invested in listening to locals, hearing directly from them about what they want in their local area for themselves and their family. The survey was very well received and an invaluable tool in helping our planning,” Mr Byars said.

“We are reviewing additional dining and entertainment options with three restaurants joining the existing mix in the first stage, a very popular request from the survey,” Mr Byars said.

“The community clearly wants more dining, with outdoor/alfresco options highly requested. Family friendly entertainment was also very popular, delivering a place to relax that allows the community to stay local. The first stage will deliver just that, the start of a very exciting space for the community.”
